“In dreams, freedom flies with more wings”
Conception, dramaturgy, performance: Daniela Marcozzi, Christina Kyriazidi
Illustrations: Malgorzata Zmyslowska
Freely adapted from the text "O Elefante" by Bartolomeu Campos de Quieros, "Elefantinho" is a performance, suitable both for adults and children, that deals with the theme of love and loss, friendship and the limits between trust and fear in every relationship.
LOLA meets a small elephant in her dream. They become friends and travel together, till the day that she is forced to let him grow, to permit him to "reach his size", even if that means they shall break up.
Since then LOLA deals with the cold sensation of loneliness and loss and she is unable to sleep. One day, the other creatures of her dream, tired of her insomnia, manage to appear in her waking life and push her to fall asleep, as plunging into her dream is the only way to find her elefantinho again.
When love becomes possession?
How difficult is to deal with the parting of the other and to accept that his/her well being is not a sacrifice but the manifestation of a healthy complicity between two persons?
How challenging is to overcome your fears and trust your dreams?
The performance uses different scenic languages, such as shadow theatre, dance and movement research, narration, projected illustrations and live accordion music. The two performers exchange continuously their roles, passing from the narrator of the dream to its protagonist, from LOLA to her sub-conscious, from the pirates to the dreaming elephant, in an attempt to depict the different levels of consciousness that we experience while dreaming.
